When I first began researching my chosen community, I felt very emotional. Child Sexual Abuse is an extremely heavy topic, and exposing myself to the darkness and sadness of this issue left me feeling heartbroken. During the early stages of my design process, I was still absorbing information from my research. This led me to create a poster series representing the darkness and horrors related to Sexual Abuse. My goal was to create a feeling of isolation, vulnerability, and suffering. Apart from the other products created for my campaign, these posters are intended to be a more direct representation of the effects Child Sexual Abuse has on its victims. I created miniature houses and photographed a small bear within each home. Once photographed, I manipulated the image through color and contrast to highlight the feeling of isolation caused by sexual abuse. The typeface resembles a child-like handwriting, intended to create an uneasy composition and strengthen the overall message of the work. This humanistic and unsettling approach to the composition is also incorporated in my other three products created for this campaign.
